hi there! i just purchased my first holga a week ago and i've been using 35mm film... i've never done this befoere and i was wondering when i got it developed if there was anything specific i need to ask or tell them so that they'll develop it with the little holes on either ends still on the picture. i know i must sound stupid but i'm not very experienced. thanks alot :)

Congrats on your new Holga! I love mine and get lots of fun out of it, and you will, too. Nah, you're not stupid at all! I had to do a lot of research before I did this.

Tell your developer you want this your film developed on a 8x10 contact sheet. What they'll do is lay out your film on a sheet and develop it that way. Request the contact sheet on a CD-ROM for two reasons. One, you'll need a way to edit your photos in the sections you want. Second, you may get a blue cast on your film. All you need to do to fix this is Auto Correct the color balance in a photo editing program. You will get your proper colors then. If you need a good program to do this, get The GIMP. It's like Photoshop, only free.

Keep in mind you can't take this to any old photo lab: a good camera shop will be able to do this. Also, unload your film in COMPLETE DARK. Untape your camera and everything in a dark place. Wind it in the dark. What I do is go into the bathroom, where there is no windows, put a towel down at bottom of the door, turn off the lights, and get to work.

Note me when you upload your photos!!
