I thought I'd try boiling a roll. After seeing a few Albums, I decided to shoot first, easier on the camera, than boil. Just to make sure I'd get some wacky results a added some lemon juice. I'm real happy with the results, especially the red in a few of them.

    My first film destruction experiment

With the success of the acetone, both methods, I wanted to try some other harsh chemicals. I used a Clorox degreaser with bleach. I put the film canister in a cup to soak and after a bit I saw the little tail of film turn completely clear. I then rushed to rinse it out so the film inside the canister wouldn't do the same. After that, in the darkroom, I pulled all the film out and gave it a little spritzing and then rubbed my fingers gently up and down the film and quickly rinsed it off gently (so a little bit still remained on the film) and then rolled it back up. I let this film sit to dry for a few days and then just shot it yesterday. The results were fantastic. My scanner went crazy. The film had turned a very odd baby food split pea soup color. The images were only slightly edited in photoshop, I just adjusted the exposure and gamma offset to deepen the contrast, it seemed the chemicals flattened out the images quite a bit. I did no color shifting or saturation enhancement, these images were already saturated beyond belief with blues, purples, greens, and well you can see. Will definitely do this again.

Using bleach to obtain a negative from instant film and then going too far and partly destroying the image.

Basically threw this in the paterson super with no reel, guessed the measurements of the chemicals, guessed the time and temperature, then left it out to dry on the clothes line in a gale force wind. Caused some crazy effects and colours.

Newest film soup; lemon juice. This did change the colors slightly and left some spots on the film too. The sky in a lot of the pictures changed to a very bright blue green. - - - - - The film was soaked for an hour in a cup with lemon juice. The film was taken out and set to dry. It dried for at least 5 days until I decided to go out today and use it. Was very smelly film.

Experiment #2 - Horrible experiment or a fantastic failure. My first chemical bath in acetone comprised of the film being pulled out of its canister and soaking in a tub of acetone; after soaking it was hung to drip dry and was then rolled back into its canister. The results were favorable, but not what I anticipated. Those images can be found in a previous album. This time I placed the film canister in a cup of acetone and let it soak. After that I just let it sit to dry. Getting anxious and impatient I flipped my oven on and set the canisters on the vent to get a blast of heat (probably a big mistake). If that wasn't enough, I let the film sit on my dashboard in my car under a steady battering of sunlight. Got it home and tried to load it in my Olympus; not heppening, the film was so warped and wrinkled it wouldn't catch when I tried advancing it through. With now more than 16" wasted I put the film in my La Sardina, that little camera has a firmer advancing sprocket. After processing (I'm not even going to go into how hot tempered I got trying to get my film to load in my film reel, nightmare!) my "ball of film (yes....I just said 'f' it and balled up the film and gently...threw it in my tank) I was then faced with the closing dilemma of scanning this wrinkled mess of plastic. Long story now ending, the few images I was left with I think was worth the headache. Some cool messy blobby streaky burnt images. Would I do it again? Probably definitely.

Those who follow me will know I wasn't too impressed with my first tryout of this film, developed in Ilfosol 3. A look online however revealed that the film could be developed in Rodinal, not something I normally associate with ISO 400 film (too much grain). I therefore did the opposite with this roll, more or less, to what I did last time-shot at the box speed of ISO 400, used a yellow filter, and developed in Rodinal, which I would normally never do with this ISO. Although some of the shots are now too dark for my taste, the overall results I think are generally much better and closer to what I like-more contrasty.

  • What I will miss most without water

    lucretia 於 2011-08-29 分享

Water is freedom. Water is fun. Water is waves. Water is me and you. Water is life. Without water you could not love and feel. Without water you could never dance and learn. Losing water is like leaving behind your most prized possession, being abandoned by the person you love or living by yourself in an endless desert. Without water you would feed on ashes and dirt; you would never shed tears of sadness or joy. You would never enjoy a glass of wine, nor will you taste fresh fruits. You could never admire the green Irish landscapes, the North Pole icebergs, USA’s great waterfalls, the rich Amazonian wildlife or the African savannas. You would forever feel dirty and hot. Your skin would be red as fire, hot as the sun and thick as leather. You would feel nothing except pain and experience only continuous degradation. Water! I will mostly miss the thrill of being alive, the force of your waves and the light touch of you infinite drops of rain! I will miss my beloved ones laughs and smiles, the feel of blood pumping through my veins and the beauty of nature. I will miss your rugged sculptures carving deep within the cliffs and the marvelous sound of a mountain river.

No water means no swimming or surfing in summer, no skiing in winter, no dancing in the rain, no cool drinks... WATER is LIFESTYLE and WATER is LIFE! There would simply be no life on our planet without water! I am in the lucky situation, that I live in the austrian mountains where i can drink fresh water directly out of the faucet or out of the river. I don´t have to buy it in the supermarket! Unthinkable for me to live in a country, where there is no clean water at all and people are dying in fact of dehydration or toxication! ..Kodak EPN (expired 2004) cross-processed, selfdeveloped with Tetanal C41 kit
