Kinkaku-ji

Kinkakuji(The Temple os the Golden Pavilion)

Kinkakuji was concerned in the 1390s as a retirement villa for Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. Apparently, the retired shougun lived in shameless luxury while the rest of the nation suffered from famine, earthquakes, and plague. However, this pavilion is not the original; 1950, a distrusted student monk burned Kinkakuji to hte ground. The story is told by author Mishima Yukio in his famous novel, The Temple of the Golden Pavilion.) The temple was rebuilt in 1955. You almost need sunglasses!
