ALICE AUSTEN (1866 –1942) was one of America’s earliest and most prolific female photographers. This exhibition examines the range of Austen’s photography and specifically inserts her into a contemporary context as the modern woman she was. 22 newly printed photographs are paired, and accompanied by interpretive text by leading scholars, artists and activists from the LGBTQ+ and allied community.
