ltissa Altix IV – Classic 35mm Camera from the GDR (East Germany) 🕰️ Production Period: ~1952–1956 🏭 Manufacturer: VEB Altissa Camera-Werk, Dresden (former East Germany) 📸 Lens: Meyer-Optik Görlitz Trioplan 50mm f/2.9 ⏱️ Shutter: Vebur leaf shutter with speeds from 1s to 1/250s + B (bulb) 🧱 Build: Solid all-metal body – compact and durable (~428g) 🎞️ Film: 35mm standard film, manually loaded via a unique bottom-hatch mechanism The Altissa Altix line began in 1938 under the name Eho-Altissa, a Dresden-based manufacturer. Initially focusing on box and compact cameras for the consumer market, the company shifted dramatically after WWII. With Dresden falling under Soviet control, the factory was nationalized in 1950 and renamed VEB Altissa Camera-Werk, aiming to produce affordable, high-quality cameras for East German citizens. Released in 1952, the Altix IV marked a refined stage in the series. Still featuring a fixed lens (the legendary Trioplan 50mm f/2.9), it bridged the gap to later models like the Altix V and Altix-NB, which introduced interchangeable bayonet-mount lenses. This makes the Altix IV a pivotal transition model in the Altix family. Loading film is done via a bottom hatch, a rare and distinctive feature. You remove the entire baseplate and manually feed the film to the take-up spool—requiring a bit of practice but adding to the vintage charm. Entirely mechanical, the Altix IV demands full manual control: shutter speed, focus, aperture—everything is hands-on. A true photographer’s tool from a bygone era. After its release, VEB Altissa was absorbed into the larger VEB Pentacon conglomerate, the state-run powerhouse behind iconic Praktica SLRs. The Altix IV was discontinued around 1956, giving way to the Altix V—and with it, the end of the fixed-lens Altix era. #AltissaAltixIV #AltixIV #VintageCamera #35mmCamera #AnalogPhotography #MeyerOptik #Trioplan50mm #Altissa #EastGermanCamera #DDRPhotography #MechanicalCamera #FilmCamera #ClassicCamera #AltixSeries #Pentacon #VintageLens #LeafShutter #ManualCamera #HistoricalCamera #CameraHistory #OldCameraLove #Filmisnotdead #ShootFilmStayBroke #35mmLove #RetroGear #AnalogVibes #CameraCollector #SovietEraCamera #MadeInDDR
