Lunch at Aloha, the low waste food bar in Rotterdam

Children once enjoyed the wild-waterslide in this former subtropical swimming oasis Tropicana, now home to the Aloha Bar. With a bar, restaurant, coffee roaster and a terrace on the Maas, this is a multifunctional catering location that focuses on sustainability and reducing waste. An example of this is Aloha’s experiment with cooking with coffee: home-made coffee mayonnaise (made from coffee waste) served with oyster mushroom bitterballen from Rotterzwam. Aloha also always has various activities on the programme like regular entertainment for children and dance or film evenings.

The Aloha Bar is open seven days a week for lunch, drinks and dinner. They often have special themes for dinner, such as the monthly ‘Cheesy Wednesday’ where they serve Dutch cheese fondue, and the ‘Vegan Challenge’, where everyone is challenged to eat local, natural, plant-based products. On all other days, the menu consists of small dishes for sharing with friends and family while enjoying perhaps the most beautiful view of Rotterdam.
