La Gibsone

You have to start somewhere and for me this is it - my first serious attempt at analogue black and white photography! All photographs in this series, “Fumbling In The Dark[Room]”, have been produced using traditional techniques and printed meticulously by hand in my home darkroom.

    Thank you for the comments.
Good to learn that you have been printing traditional darkroom photographs. I very much like seasoned ‘vintage look’ of the prints you have created.
A complete set of contrast filters is a worthy investment and in many ways Indispensable for black and white darkroom printing.
This particular image was created on some very old Ilford 35mm film stock. Given the labelling around the sprocket holes, I would suggest the film was manufactured in the early 1980’s. The paper the image was printed was also way past its best before date.
The soft muddy tones and lack of contrast, often a characteristic of expired photographic emulsions are not to everyone’s taste but I feel it works well for this image.
