Pass the word: pay attention where you point your lens when photographing with the La Sardina.
I must admit: I was enraged. On several of my pictures from my last roll taken on my La Sardina, a mysterious crescent appeared. On five of the photos, it showed up in the lower left hand corner. But on two, it showed up in the lower right hand corner. A mysterious “cursor” accompanied one of these shots:
What had happened? Had the lab screwed up? Was there a problem with my La Sardina’s shutter? Had I cracked the lens?
I studied my camera closely, then recalled the conditions under which I had taken the photos. The sun was descending in the West. In all the photos, I had adjusted the photo so that it remained just outside of the photo either to the upper right — in the case of the left corner blemishes — or the upper left — in the case of the right corner crescents. When I examined the lens, the problem explained itself: this was the sun glinting off the bubble that protects the lens.
Look closely at these four shots. You will notice a little rainbow edge to the crescents.
The cure? Next time, I keep my back to the sun when taking photos. Or choose times when it is overhead.

I noticed the same in several of my sardina pictures, but I always thought that it was my hair before the lens haha :D Thanks for the tip!

@bloomchen I had never seen it before this trip, but then I usually am not taking pictures next to the ocean.
@ohpleasedontgo As @pangmark says elsewhere, we could think of it as a "design feature". Personally, I have run into problems with almost every camera I've ever owned and as for the ones that I haven't run into problems with, I suspect I just haven't found them yet. ;)

I had such sun flare on my sardine shots too... think it's a normal reaction with such a "round" plastic lens. A kind of sun shade cover around the lens can perhaps resolve the problem?...

@vicuna I get sun flare on my high quality Nikon lenses and I am sure that Canon users get it, too. Hell, even Hasselblad users get lens flare. But I have to say that there is nothing quite like the lens flare of La Sardina. ;)
