Beshik

Beshik-To'y (Wooden Cradle) - ritual celebration, related to the event when the baby is put in the cradle for the first time. It is the one of the most ancient and wide spread rides in Uzbekistan. Usually this event is celebrated on 7, 9, 11th day from the date the baby is born. In different areas the ceremony has its features and is dependent on a family well-being.
Beshik (Cradle) and all the necessary accessories are gifted by relatives from mother side of the baby. Oriental sweets, toys, national bread (lepeshka) are put and wrapped in dastarkhan (traditional tablecloth). Different presents and gifts are prepared for parents and grandparents of the baby. Richly decorated beshik (cradle), dastarkhans (tablecloth) with sweets and bread, gifts and presents are loaded on a vehicle and accompanied by realatives and guests moves towards the house of the baby's parents to sounds of karnays and surnays (national musical instruments).
